Redefining Community: Lessons from My Podcasting Journey
Change rarely announces itself loudly. Most of the time, it begins quietly—small, subtle, and almost unnoticeable. Then one day, you realize you’re standing in the middle of uncertainty, growth, and possibility all at once.
This year, a lot has changed for me. And with that change came clarity around community building through podcasting—something I didn’t set out to do, but discovered along the way.

Finding My Voice Through Podcasting
When I started Thym 4 Tea with Mikita, I didn’t have a business plan or a long-term strategy. I simply wanted to speak to a younger version of myself—the one who felt voiceless, unsure, and afraid to dream too big.
I wanted to remind her:
- You don’t have to dream small
- You’re allowed to do the unthinkable
- It’s okay to dare to be great
Although at the time, I was on a healing and self-discovery journey, I didn’t fully understand. What I didn’t realize was that podcasting would become the very tool that helped me find my voice when I felt silenced.
By showing up consistently and honestly, I began connecting with people from all over the world. Without trying to build anything formal, community building through podcasting was already happening—through shared stories, vulnerability, and presence.
Growth, Evolution, and Permission to Pivot
Beautifully Unbalanced began as a business idea, but for a long time I wasn’t sure what it was meant to become. And that uncertainty was part of the process.
Growth requires evolution.
As we grow, we change. We ask ourselves hard questions:
What’s next?
What happens after this?
The answer is simple and terrifying at the same time: anything.
You are allowed to pivot.
You are allowed to change direction.
You are allowed to trust yourself without waiting for validation.

Redefining What Community Really Means
During the Afros and Audios conference in October, the final podcast conversation centered on one powerful question: What is community—and do we truly understand it?
For me, community is not about numbers, platforms, or visibility. It’s about creating intentional space.
Space for people who are:
- Evolving
- Questioning
- Stepping into their next chapter
- Ready for honest conversations
This is the heart of community building through podcasting—not performance, but presence. Not perfection, but connection rooted in understanding and care.
The Three Words That Ground My Definition of Community
If I had to define community in three words, it would be:
- Family
- Love
- Being
Not constant doing.
Not proving worth.
Just being—together.
A New Season Rooted in Connection
My mission in this new season of podcasting and community is not to provide all the answers. It’s to hold space for growth, curiosity, and conversation.
Each episode, each gathering, each shared moment is meant to leave you feeling nourished—not fixed.
Growth will stretch you.
It will scare you.
It will challenge you.
Because you don’t have to walk through it alone. That’s the power of community building through podcasting—a reminder that support exists, even in seasons of uncertainty.
