Fearlessly You: Uncovering Your Power Through Boudoir with Marie Malvoisin
Have you ever felt stuck, unsure, or hesitant about stepping into your true self? You’re not alone—and today’s conversation is exactly what you need. I sat down with the inspiring Marie Malvoisin, founder of Bohemian Vision Studio, and let me tell you, this talk left me feeling empowered, energized, and ready to embrace my own authenticity.

Marie’s story is one of incredible transformation—after 20 years in the Army, she courageously stepped into entrepreneurship, founding Bohemian Vision Studio, a boudoir photography studio in Richmond, VA. But here’s the thing: boudoir isn’t just about photography for Marie. It’s about empowerment, reclaiming confidence, and celebrating your unique story.
Mikita: Marie, you spent 20 years in the Army before launching your own business. Can you share what sparked such a profound shift?
Marie: Absolutely. After two decades of military life, I knew it was time to prioritize my own happiness and peace. The structure and discipline of the Army provided invaluable lessons, but it also came with significant stress and pressure. Eventually, I reached a point where I realized I wasn’t living authentically. Photography had always been a passion of mine, a way to find peace, and I knew it was something I could use to empower others, especially women.
Mikita: You talk openly about struggling with boundaries and depression during your Army career. What changed that for you?
Marie: Deployment to Afghanistan was actually transformative for me. I started prioritizing self-care, setting clear boundaries, and learning to say no without guilt. Reading Jen Sincero’s “How to Be a Badass” was pivotal. It taught me to value myself and establish boundaries unapologetically. The phrase “No is a complete sentence” became a powerful mantra for me.
Mikita: What drew you specifically to boudoir photography?
Marie: Initially, it wasn’t planned. But when I saw how boudoir could empower women, allowing them to rediscover their femininity and reclaim their stories, I knew this was my path. My sessions aren’t just about beautiful photos—they’re about healing, empowerment, and transformation. Women leave seeing themselves as powerful and authentically beautiful, often for the first time.
Mikita: What advice would you give to someone considering boudoir photography but feeling nervous?
Marie: Do it scared. Fear is natural, especially with something that makes us feel vulnerable. But true confidence grows when you push through that fear. I always remind my clients to reflect on what’s stopping them—often, it’s simply their own self-doubt. When they finally see themselves through my lens, that fear transforms into empowerment.
Mikita: Your studio sounds incredibly welcoming and comforting. Can you share a little about the experience?
Marie: It’s a full sensory journey. My studio is designed to immediately soothe—dim lighting, calming scents, music tailored to each client’s taste, luxurious textures like satin and velvet. It’s an environment meant to strip away outside roles and pressures, allowing women to just be themselves, completely and beautifully.
Mikita: What’s the most rewarding part of your work?
Marie: Definitely seeing women have that transformative moment when they look at their photos and say, “That’s me!” It’s emotional and profound every single time. Knowing I’ve helped someone see their own strength and beauty is truly rewarding.
Mikita: Marie, thank you so much for this powerful conversation. Your story and your work are truly inspiring.
Marie: Thank you, Mikita. It’s been such a pleasure. I’m honored to share this space with you.
